Has anyone ever told you to "get real"? For example, maybe someone has had this similar conversation:
"So, what do you think of my new hair style? This is my natural color, you know."
"Get real!"
What was this person really saying? In this instance "get real" means: "I don’t believe you for a minute!"
On the other hand, have you ever heard these expressions?
"She is real."
"She’s the real thing."
"She’s the real deal."
These are meant as compliments. We recognize a person who is sincere and not fake. We often envy someone like that.
My mama has had two bouts with breast cancer and a number of other health problems that have almost cost her life. Her attitude has always been that of Paul’s: "To live is Christ, to die is gain." God has used her to encourage others in their faith when faced with similar difficulties. She is the real deal!
Recently, God has been dealing with me on this issue of being real. His idea is for me to be the Godly woman I was intended to be. I need to get real in my Christian walk.
Being a pastor’s wife, I have mastered the fake smile and the perfect tone to reply that I am fine. Can I be honest? Sometimes I am not fine. No matter how heathen it may sound, sometimes I would just rather stay home. The reason I feel this way is because I am going through the motions. This is wrong! God wants more for me. And, He wants more for you too!
Come with me on a journey the next few months. God taught me how to get real. I want to share this with you. We will utilize the letters in the word "real" to learn some principles for getting real and being who God intends for us to be.
